The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) has signed contracts with representatives of the municipalities of Jablanica, Konjic, Mostar, Fojnica, Kresevo, Kiseljak, Visoko, and Drvar in the total amount of 4.8 million BAM for the rehabilitation of housing units and assistance to households.

It will also serve for the implementation of infrastructure projects after the floods that affected these areas eight months ago.

Nerin Dizdar, the Federal Minister for Displaced Persons and Refugees, explained that it is money donated by the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which allocated a total of four million euros for these purposes, while the Government of the FBiHsecured 815.000 BAM. The planned amounts per household will range from 8.000 to 15.000 BAM, depending on the level of damage to the housing unit, social vulnerability, and specific needs.

“From these currently used funds, approximately eight million BAM, we have so far secured the implementation of four million and 815.000 BAM from the funds disbursed under the contracts. Four million will go to infrastructure projects, according to the priorities of local communities, and the rest will be disbursed to around 90 families who lost their roofs over their heads in the floods and cannot return to their place of residence,” said Dizdar.

Mladen Misuric Ramljak, Mayor of the Municipality of Kiseljak, said that this local community signed a contract for the rehabilitation of infrastructure, namely the damaged water supply system in the area of Han-Ploca Azapovici and the reconstruction of a local road in Visnjica.

“We have conducted the public procurement process for the rehabilitation of the water supply system, and work will begin in the next month. The public procurement for the road reconstruction is in process. All the money we received at the end of last year we implemented as support for the economy, and currently, the revision and resolution of complaints are underway regarding aid to families who suffered damage,” said Misuric Ramljak, stating that they have major damages on watercourses.

Osman Catic, Mayor of Konjic, said that this city signed two contracts one for the improvement of road infrastructure in the communities affected by the disaster, and the other concerning direct support to people who lost their homes.

“We have seven bridges to rehabilitate and a certain part of the infrastructure, for which 1.4 million is planned, while 28 of our citizens met the criteria and will receive around 250.000 BAM. The project documentation for the bridges and road infrastructure is nearing completion. The tender announcement follows,” said Catic, emphasizing that the total damage in the area of this city amounts to 140 million BAM.

The remaining part of the funds from this amount, a bit over three million BAM, as stated by Dizdar, will be used for the construction of housing units one building in Jablanica, and individual housing units in Konjic and Fojnica, according to the priorities requested by residents who lost their roofs over their heads.
