Bosnian and Herzegovinian (BiH) athlete and student of the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences at the University of Sarajevo (UNSA) Faruk Suljovic (23) crossed 1.200 kilometers and raised more than 50.000 BAM for the treatment of Anelija Smajic, an oncology patient from Vitez.

He came up with a humanitarian project during which, by running and cycling, he connected Sarajevo and Istanbul. On this route, he passed through four countries.

BiH athlete and student Faruk Suljovic set off from Sarajevo on April 25th, running a humanitarian marathon to raise money for the treatment of oncology patient Anelija Smajic from Vitez. She suffers from a rare type of thyroid cancer, and around 8.000 BAM is needed for her treatment every month. So far, Faruk has raised more than 50.000 BAM.

Faruk lost his father to cancer when he was not yet ten years old. He was moved by Anelija’s situation. That’s why he decided to help so that Anelija’s three little ones would not be left without their mother; he came up with a new humanitarian project during which, by running and cycling, he connected Sarajevo and Istanbul. On that route, he passed through four countries (BiH, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Turkey).

On that challenging journey, Faruk was accompanied by his friends who were in charge of logistical support, while the ambassadors of the project used social media and the media to raise awareness about the importance of that humanitarian mission.

Faruk crossed 1.200 kilometers and reached Istanbul, after eight days of a demanding but above all noble humanitarian endeavor. Amra Dzeko, one of the project’s ambassadors, joined Faruk to run the final few kilometers of that major humanitarian-sports project.

Friends of that humanitarian-sports project are Amra Dzeko, Dzanan Musa, Mirza Nikolajev, Helem Nejse, Marko Louis, Nedim Sladic, Nedim Botic, Emir Hastor, Mahir Mujic, Lana Lekic, Alma Fazlic, Amela Ivkovic O’Reilly, Ilma Karahmet, Mersed Ibrahimovic.

“It is possible to join this humanitarian campaign until May 10th, by calling the number 17041, by paying into the bank account, as well as through the web campaign of the humanitarian organization Pomozi.ba, which is once again the main partner of the Project this year. Money is paid into the bank account with the note ‘1.200 kilometers for Anelija’.”, Klix.ba writes.
