The Federal Institute of Statistics published data on the working-age population in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the second quarter of 2026.
According to published data, 1,847,000 working-age residents live in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Out of that number, 896,000 are economically active, or 48.5 percent of the total working-age population. Outside the labor force are 952,000, who make up 51.5 percent. These individuals are fit to work but are not seeking employment.
Out of the total working-age population, 771,000 were employed, or 41.8 percent, and 124,000 were unemployed, or 6.7 percent.
Compared to the first quarter of 2026, the number of employed decreased by 3.3 percent, and the number of unemployed increased by 7.8 percent.
In the second quarter of 2026, the employment rate decreased by 1.4 percent compared to the first quarter of 2026, while it decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the second quarter of 2025.
In the second quarter of 2026, the unemployment rate compared to the first quarter of 2026 increased by 1.3 percent, while compared to the second quarter of 2025, it decreased by 0.6 percent.
Within the structure of the active population, 543 thousand are men, or 60.7 percent, and 352 thousand are women, or 39.3 percent. Within the structure of employed persons, 484 thousand, or 62.7 percent, are men, while 288 thousand, or 37.3 percent, are women. Out of the total number of unemployed persons, 60 thousand, or 48.0 percent, are men, and 65 thousand, or 52.0 percent, are women.
