The President of FIFA, a Slovenian, Aleksandar Čeferin, spoke on the phone with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and among the topics they discussed was the barrage for going to Euro 2024.
Ukraine was drawn in the play-off against the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ceferin wished Zelensky luck for the match to be played in March.
“The UEFA president expressed his unwavering support and admiration for the people of Ukraine, and for their courage in these difficult times, and expressed hope for a quick and peaceful resolution to the war, which would bring prosperity to Ukraine. He also wished the Ukrainian national team good luck in the play-off match for EURO 2024,” reads the UEFA announcement.
Not so long ago, before the last match of the qualifiers, Čeferin angered the fans of the Ukrainian national team, when he said before the match between Italy and Ukraine that it would be a “tragedy” if Italy did not qualify for the European Championship.
