First Flight from Damascus International Airport after the Fall of the Assad Regime

The airport in the Syrian capital Damascus resumed operations today after the fall of the Baath Party regime.

A Syrian Airlines passenger plane took off from Damascus International Airport for Aleppo, the first flight since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The airport reopened to traffic after preparations were completed.

Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups seized control of Damascus on December 8, ending the Baath Party regime that had ruled Syria since 1963.
