Maximilian Ibrahimovic, the son of legendary footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has moved from Milan to Ajax on loan, from one club where his father left a deep mark to another. “It’s nice that he also played for Ajax. I’m happy to have the opportunity to play here as well and to develop. I want to write my own story. I am my own person and my own player; I’m here to do my own thing, and I’m really looking forward to it,” Maximilian Ibrahimovic said.
According to Italian media reports, Ajax paid Milan 3.5 million euros for the loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy the contract in the summer.
“We are very satisfied with Maximilian’s arrival. He is a talented striker with a good sense of space in and around the penalty area, as well as a strong instinct for scoring goals. He is skilled in dribbling and, above all, possesses a pronounced winning mentality and an excellent attitude toward training,” said Ajax’s director of football, Marijn Beuker.
The young Swede went through all of Milan’s youth categories but has not yet made his debut for the first team, although he was part of the squad that traveled to Saudi Arabia last month for the Italian Super Cup. This season, he has scored five goals in 16 matches for Milan Futuro.
“At first, he will mainly play for Ajax U23, but over the course of the season, he will also often be involved with the first team, so that he can gradually get used to a higher level and intensity of play. Maximilian has great potential, and we hope that in time he will become a regular member of Ajax’s attack,” Beuker added.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic played for Ajax from 2001 to 2005, scoring 48 goals in 110 appearances, winning two Dutch league titles and the national cup. In a Milan shirt, over two spells, he scored 93 goals in 163 matches and won two Serie A titles, as well as the Italian Super Cup.
“‘Ibrahimovic’ is just a surname. I’m just Maximilian. If I burdened myself with the name, everything would be wrong, and it wouldn’t be fun to play football. I don’t compare myself to him; I don’t even think we look alike,” the younger Ibrahimovic said.
Zlatan’s younger son, 17-year-old Vincent Ibrahimovic, recently signed his first professional contract with Milan.
