This student pavilion will be constructed of over 80 percent of recycled materials collected during the campaign which is to last until September 30th 2015 in the area of the Sarajevo Canton. This is the first student pavilion of its kind being constructed in B&H.
The space will be used for the organization of exhibitions and presentations, and as a place for the gathering of students. This pavilion is an example of how it is possible to contribute to the environmental protection and energy efficiency through the use of recycled materials, but also to create a modern space available to and adjusted upon everyone equally.
“The student pavilion facility will be completely built of natural and recycled materials which give it a special significance and value, and as such it will be a role-model for future planning and adjustments in the construction sector. In B&H it has always been constructed with natural materials, which there are plenty in B&H and which are nowadays especially valued due to their isolating characteristics. Through the construction of this facility we want to point at the importance of recycling old materials and reducing waste”, said Sanela Klaric, the Head of the Department of Architecture at the International Burch University in Sarajevo.
Burch, together with its partners, invites all the citizens who wish to donate old windows, doors, bricks, wood, and other construction materials to contact them via email address pavilion@ibu.edu.ba or via phone number 033-944-426, contact person Omar Kapetanovic. The transport of the donated materials is organized from the address of the donator to the University, it was announced.
The conceptual solution for the construction of the pavilion was created by the students of Burch; while the decision on the best idea was brought by the jury consisted of experts in the fields of architecture, cultural heritage protection, art and culture, and the French Embassy in B&H. The construction of the pavilion starts in October 2015.
