A group of former diplomats and experts on the Balkans sent a letter to the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee in which they demand the impeachment of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Christian Schmidt.
According to Spiegel, the officials in the letter accuse Schmidt of causing permanent damage to the peace process in BiH, as well as the image of Germany.
”Since his appointment in 2021, Schmidt’s activities have promoted nationalist forces and protected those working to undermine and destroy the state. He allowed the Croatian government to use him to change the electoral law in BiH,” they emphasize.
Also, it is stated that during his address to the Committee of the United Kingdom (UK) Parliament, he gave false information about the order he received from Croatia.
”The authors, including the former German ambassador to North Macedonia and former employees of the high representative’s administration, call for all necessary measures to be taken to remove him,” they add.
Regarding the letter sent to the Bundestag committee, SPD politician and committee chairman Michael Roth said he would discuss the issue with his colleagues.
”I am using this letter as an opportunity to also invite Christian Schmidt to speak to the responsible colleagues in the Foreign Affairs Committee about the allegations,” he stated, Klix.ba reports.
