The deputies also accepted the proposal to award the plaque of Canton Sarajevo to publicists Nihad Halilbegović and Croatian historian Dunja Blažević.
Dole is one of the most famous former US politicians. During 1992-1995, Dole has proven to be extremely active in lobbying for military intervention in B&H, stopping the war and preserving the state.
In the Senate, he proposed and supported a series of resolutions aimed at these objectives. The pressure of the US Senate, especially after voting unilateral lifting of the embargo by the US Senate and Clinton’s veto, was the key reason that forced the then US administration to be actively involved in stopping the aggression and genocide in B&H.
Also, he was chairperson of the International Commission for Missing Persons, and during his time here he provided significant credibility to this organization. As explained, Michael Schumacher, as special ambassador of UNESCO donated 1,5 million Euros for project in Sarajevo, Senegal and Peru, where he visited Sarajevo twice as part of the project.
He came to the capital city of B&H for the first time in 1996 and then in December of next year. Schumacher, who was also a great humanitarian, arrived in Sarajevo, which was organized by HOPE and UNICEF in order to visit the war wounded children in hospital Koševo.
