Assistant Director for Organization and Operations of the BiH Border Police (GP) Veljko Lazić received a Frontex delegation headed by the Deputy Executive Director of Frontex Lars Gerdes for a visit in Sarajevo, where they discussed cooperation so far, existing challenges, trends in the field of illegal migration, cross-border crime and measures for their effective suppression.
Also, the current results of joint activities and operational actions were discussed and information was exchanged about the security challenges that members of the Border Police face every day, announced the GPBiH.
Frontex representatives informed the management of the Border Police about the possibilities of additional operational, technical and professional support for strengthening border security and the readiness to provide maximum support in the fight against cross-border crime through the available mechanisms, in accordance with the law.
After the meeting, Assistant Lazić presented the Silver Plaque of the BiH Border Police to the Deputy Director of Frontex Gerdes and thanked them for the exceptional support and cooperation, and, to mutual satisfaction, expressed their commitment to strengthening the partnership with the aim of safer borders of BiH and the European Union.
The Frontex delegation then visited members of the Border Police at the Sarajevo International Airport.
Confirmation of the successful and intensive partnership is also evident through the regular visit of Frontex to the units of the BiH Border Police, as was the case in the previous days in the units of the Doljani, Hum and Zvornik Border Police.
It was concluded that the continuous exchange of operational data and joint risk assessment are key to a timely and effective response to new threats, and the commitment to continue intensive cooperation and joint work on strengthening border security, in accordance with European standards, was emphasized.
