Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović, met today in London with Baroness Arminka Helić, a member of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom.
The meeting was held on the eve of the Remembering Srebrenica commemoration, and in light of the current political and economic situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region and the world.
Member of the Presidency of BiH, Komšić, exchanged views with his interlocutors on the importance of preserving peace and stability in our country and the region, emphasizing that the European Union should play a significant role in this process.
“When we talk about the problems that Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing, these problems must be solved by the actors in our country while respecting the institutional framework, the rule of law and democratic principles,” Komšić emphasized after today’s meeting.
Baroness Helić confirmed her full support for preserving peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and for the further continuation of reform processes in line with Euro-Atlantic integration.
“This meeting sent a message about the importance of preserving the memory of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, but also about the determination to prevent any attempts at denial or revisionism of historical facts,” the Office of BiH Presidency Member Željko Komšić said.
Komšić and Bećirović with Lord Coaker: UK respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH, supports Euro-Atlantic integration
Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović met today in London with Lord Coaker, Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence in charge of international relations, diplomacy and parliamentary affairs in the House of Lords. The meeting was also attended by Dame Karen Pierce, the United Kingdom’s special envoy for the Western Balkans.
British representatives strongly condemned the actions of political individuals from Republika Srpska, clearly emphasizing that the UK respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. They also emphasized that their support for our country will continue to be reflected in the intensive support for our country on its path towards Euro-Atlantic integration.
Member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić emphasized the importance of commitment to preserving stability and peace in our country and the region, thanking the UK government for its long-standing support.
They also discussed the formation of new forms of cooperation and the further strengthening of bilateral relations between the United Kingdom, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the countries of the region in preserving peace, stability and security.
In this light, the interlocutors praised the excellent military cooperation between the two countries, and Lord Coaker confirmed full support for the continuation of reforms in the defense and security sector.
The meeting was also attended by UK Ambassador Julian Reilly, the Presidency of BiH announced.
