Funding Shortfall Hits Corridor Vc Section Amid Lengthy Approval Process

The construction of the Ozimice – Poprikuse section between Zepce and Tesanj has not even started yet, and a new problem has already appeared. Namely, there is not enough money for this section.

This is the only section of the so-called northern part of Corridor Vc through the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) that is not yet under construction. All other sections between Zenica and Doboj are under construction.

The Ozimice – Poprikuse section is 12.8 kilometers long, and the estimated construction value amounts to about 665 million BAM. According to previously published information, which can also be found on the website of Public Company Motorways of the FBiH, this section will be financed by a loan from the European Investment Bank of 340 million BAM.

However, considering that several years have passed since the cost planning and that prices have significantly increased in the meantime, there will now be a shortage of funds for the construction. This was discussed yesterday at the Government of the FBiH.

Namely, the Government accepted two days ago the information “regarding the missing funds for the construction of the motorway sections on Corridor Vc, section Medakovo – Poprikuse, subsection Ozimice – Poprikuse.”

“Being aware of the price increase, the Government of the FBiH expresses its commitment to continue the implementation of the strategic project of constructing the motorway on Corridor Vc, section Medakovo – Poprikuse, subsection Ozimice – Poprikuse, and in cooperation with the creditors will undertake the necessary activities in the coming period with the aim of securing the missing funds,” it was stated by the Government.

Namely, the procedure for selecting companies for this section has become complicated. Specifically, the selection of the supervision for the construction of this section is underway and is taking longer than expected.
