Funds Approved for Elections and 120 Million BAM from Road Tolls Allocated to FBiH Government

Deputy Minister of Finance and Treasury of BiH Muhamed Hasanović today signed an order in the amount of 120 million BAM intended for the Federation of BiH from toll revenues, as well as an order for the payment of 112.5 million BAM for the Central Election Commission, i.e. the modernization of elections.

The signed orders, as announced by Hasanović’s office, were necessary for the implementation of the decisions of the High Representative in BiH Christian Schmidt, which relate to the payment of the debt to the Slovenian company Viadukt, as well as the introduction of modern technologies in the electoral process.

Hasanović said that the multi-year fiscal imbalance cannot be ignored when it comes to the distribution of toll revenues.

“The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina participates with 86% in the total revenue collected from road tolls, and receives 59% from the available funds. Republika Srpska is allocated 39%, although its contribution is 14%, while the Brčko District with 0.09% of payments receives 2%, according to a press release from the Deputy Minister of Finance and Treasury of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He notes that the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina must continue with a fair and proportional distribution of revenues.

Hasanović believes that both of today’s decisions were made out of responsibility towards citizens, and not, as he said, political calculations.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina no longer has room for those who blackmail it in order to retain power,” Hasanović’s office said.
