During this ceremony, US Brigadier General Giselle Wilz replaced Brigadier General Christopher J. Petty both as the commander and senior military representative of NATO HQ Sarajevo.
In his address during the ceremony, Admiral Mark Ferguson, Commander, Allied Joint Force Command, Naples, stated that “This is an event that signifies NATO’s continuing commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the efforts many are making to bring about positive and lasting change.”
General Petty stated that “Even though defense reform moves slower than many of us would like, it is moving; and like building a good foundation brick by brick, that foundation is being built with each passing month. The fact is, the military is becoming more professional and despite the rather significant resource constraints they face, they are proving it every day.”
In her address as the new commander, Brigadier General Wilz stated she “is looking forward to the challenging and rewarding work ahead and being a part of these collective efforts in Defense Reform to ensure a future of security and prosperity for all of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
Brigadier General Petty will go back to the United States after one year of service in this position. Brigadier General Wilz comes from the United States too and her distinguished professional journey to this posting includes command at the battalion and brigade levels and service in Kosovo.
