This proposal from Berlin will be on the table of the European Council in Brussels very soon, which should approve it and determine the special fund for the Balkans.
The above-mentioned plan, according to information by Vecernje novosti, is called “Berlin plus”, and the money for its realization should be provided by the European Economic Area /EEA/ that consists of all member states of the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, and the European Free Trade Association /EFTA/.
One of the goals is to connect the Western Balkans through infrastructure connections such as motorways, which would connect Serbia with BiH or Belgrade with Tirana, over Pristina.
A strong reason for activation of “Berlin plus” is decrease of tensions in the region because the Western Balkans area has a great safety importance for Germany.
In the media was also stated that the opportunity to do something more specific when it comes to “Berlin plus” would take place as early as a mid-next month when the regular annual summit on the Western Balkans will be held in Trieste.
