Greece first Orthodox Christian Country to legalise same-sex Marriage

Greece has become the first country in which the Orthodox make up the majority, which has legalized same-sex marriage.

Same-sex couples will now be legally allowed to adopt children, following a vote in parliament yesterday.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said the new law would “boldly support serious inequality”.

The law was adopted by a simple majority in the parliament of 300 deputies.

Mitsotakis was in favor of the law, but needed the help of opposition parties to muster a majority, while more than a dozen MPs from his center-right party opposed the decision.

In the European Union, 15 countries, out of 27, have already legalized same-sex marriage, and around the world there are 35 countries that have done so.
