“Currently, we do not have such an experience that the patient was vaccinated and went to the intensive care unit and was on a respirator. There is 19 percent of them in the Clinic for Infectious Diseases, but we did not have any fatalities or deaths, ” told Antonija Verhaz, the head of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases of the UCC RS.
Epidemiologists are not surprised by the growing number of infected people who have been fully vaccinated. According to them, the main causes are the relatively small number of vaccinated persons and the relaxation of citizens, which together contribute to greater virus transmission. Also, there are other reasons.
“The immune system of the elderly who have several associated diseases sometimes does not respond at full capacity in the face of the cause itself. Then it is certain that the infectious dose of the virus means the amount of virus that enters the body itself has an impact on the response of the immune system, even in a vaccinated person. Then there is the circulation of new strains of the virus, ” explained Jelena Djakovic, an epidemiologist at the RS Institute of Public Health.
Further, immunologists stressed that it is normal for the virus to attack both vaccinated and unvaccinated, but that it has nothing to do with the effectiveness of vaccines that protect against more severe symptoms.
According to the data of the Institute of Public Health of the Federation of BiH (FBiH), 21 percent of adult citizens have been completely vaccinated. In RS, 31 percent of citizens received both doses of the vaccine. Vaccination continues throughout the country, and the interest of citizens is satisfactory.
“Today, the second dose of ‘Sputnik V’ vaccine is planned. We have about 200 people with appointments. The response is good. People come to their appointments, ” stated yesterday Jelena Dobrovoljski, head of the Petricevac Vaccination Point.
Experts said that perhaps more attention should be paid to a larger volume of vaccination with both doses than to go with the third dose. They also note that the statistics and figures are unquestionable and that having them in mind, the still present dilemma of whether to get vaccinated or not, should not exist.
