Guardiola: ‘We Have a One Percent Chance of Winning, But We’ll Fight for It’

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said his team has minimal chances of beating Real Madrid in the upcoming second leg of the Champions League round of 16, but that they will still try to achieve a good result.

“The margin needed to win at the (Santiago) Bernabeu, in that position (a 2-3 defeat in the first leg), we all know that if you ask before the game what our chances of progressing are, it will be one percent. It will be minimal, but as long as we have a chance we will try, that is for sure,” Guardiola said, as reported by ESPN today.

Manchester City lost to Real Madrid 2-3 at home in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, after leading 2-1.

The second leg in Madrid is scheduled for Wednesday at 9 p.m.

“The chance is small because the result was not good, if it had remained 2-1 it would have been different. With 2-3 the chances are smaller, but as long as we have a chance we will try to take it, and we will see what happens,” added Guardiola.

Manchester City secured a place in the last 16 of the Champions League by finishing the first phase in 22nd place with 11 points after eight games.
