CNN projects that Vice President Kamala Harris will win the state of New Mexico in the 2024 presidential election. In this state, five electoral votes are at stake, while at least 270 electoral votes are needed to win the election.
Heading into Election Day, New Mexico was seen as a “likely Democratic” state, according to Decision Desk HQ forecasts — just a step shy of being solidly blue.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the state by 8 points in 2016, and President Biden expanded that to 11 points in 2020.
Unofficial results show Harris leading with 51 percent of the vote as of 10:30 p.m.
Harris performed well in urban parts of New Mexico, including in Bernalillo County where she led with 59 percent of the vote as of 10:30 p.m. In Santa Fe County, Harris received about 74 percent of the vote.
On the other hand, former President Donald Trump scored better in rural parts of New Mexico.
