Heat wave in Brazil, Air Temperature reached 52 Degrees Celsius

Red warnings have been issued for almost 3,000 cities across Brazil, which have experienced an unprecedented heat wave, the BBC reports.

Records were broken in many areas, including the city of Rio de Janeiro where the temperature reached up to 52.5C.

More than a hundred million people have been affected by the heat wave, which is expected to last until at least Friday.

Officials attributed this to the El Niño phenomenon and climate change.

In the city of Sao Paulo yesterday afternoon, the average temperature was 37.3 degrees Celsius, the National Meteorological Institute (Inmet) reported.
