Helez and Cernochova on bilateral Defense Cooperation between BiH and the Czech Republic

In Tomislavgrad, a commemoration was held for the fallen members of the Czech SFOR contingent, who died 26 years ago in a helicopter accident on the slopes of Mount Tusnica in Stipanjici. As the Czech delegation was led by Defense Minister Jana Cernochova, it was also an opportunity for a state meeting between the defense ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)and the Czech Republic.

The delegation of the Czech Republic with the Minister of Defense was welcomed in Tomislavgrad, together with the local government, by the Minister of Defense of BiH Zukan Helez (SDP). On that occasion, a ceremonial review of the honorary unit of the Armed Forces of BiH (AFBiH) took place, followed by a bilateral meeting between the two ministries.

“We are in discussions regarding the acquisition of a primary radar, which is very important for the AFBiH so that BiH can finally start controlling its skies at full capacity. We also talked about other things, about the training of soldiers, and the minister told me that they have a reserve unit that is ready to come and reinforce the mission of Altea in BiH, if necessary,” Helez said.

After the meeting, the Czech soldiers were honored at the place of death, and the Minister of Defense thanked the authorities of Tomislavgrad for taking care of the memorial.

“The least we can do and thank the families of the fallen Czech soldiers is to cherish the memory of the three members of the Czech army who lost their lives here in 1998,” said Ivan Buntic, head of the Tomislavgrad Municipality (HNP).

The commemoration was also attended by the ambassador of BiH in Prague, Martina Mlinarevic, with members of the Czech embassy in Sarajevo.
