“For us who survived all of this, it is hard to talk about it but we have to speak the truth about what happened between 1992 and 1995 for those who didn’t survive. We learned something from each battle. But the Battle for Barren Hill in July 1993 was a major turning point for the Brigade, whose soldiers with commander Fikret throughout the entire war were a bastion. We defended the city gates from the first to the last day of the war. After this battle, we matured and we knew that we couldn’t ever betray what our comrades gave their lives for,” Edin Fazli, who was awarded the “Zlatni ljiljan,” was a wartime commander of a special company and is a disabled veteran, said when speaking about the Battle for Barren Hill.
Adisa Bogunic, the daughter of Emir Bogunic Carli who was only a girl when he died, addressed the public in an emotional manner.
“We were left without him, but not alone. His friends and comrades were always there for us and are keeping his memory alive, as well as that of other martyrs and killed soldiers,” Adisa Bogunic said.
Fikret Prevljak, the wartime commander of the 4th Knights Motorized Brigade, spoke about the Battle for Barren Hill and the deaths of Emir Bogunic Carli, the sisters Samira and Mevlida Elcic and Dzemail Bulbo.
