Mirsad Purivatra, director of the Sarajevo Film Festival, presented him the award in front of more than 3,000 people. Before his arrival in the Open Air Cinema Metalac, Oliver Stone walked on a red carpet in front of the National Theater in Sarajevo where he was welcomed with a great applause.
He directed feature films, short films, documentaries, he was talking about controversial historical personalities and events, often in a controversial way, but he always remained true to himself. He is also well-known for defending his attitudes and films with all of his heart.
In more than four decades long career, Stone directed more than 20 films, and he is the most famous for his achievements of Platoon (1986), Born on the Fourth of July (1989), JFK (1991) and Natural Born Killers (1994).
In his long and successful career, he earned three Oscars and he was nominated for it for up to 31 times, including eight acting nominations, six nominations for the best scenario and three for the director. He achieved almost everything during his career since 1971, and he became one the Hollywood legends thanks to his work and unique ideas.
Today, he is one of the most famous and most respected directors in the world.
The Honorable Heart of Sarajevo is the 61st award that he received in his career.
