The House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted today the Proposal of Conclusion of the Commission for Gender Equality of the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which grants mothers the right to the presence of an escort of their own choice throughout the entire duration of childbirth.
Women from the organization “Glas žene” from Bihać said earlier that this initiative was modeled after the already accepted and implemented initiative that the organization “Glas žene” Bihać and a representative of the USC Assembly carried out in USC, after the death of a woman in labor Azra Bećirspahić and her baby Merjem.
The House of Peoples also adopted the conclusion of the Commission, at the initiative of delegate Belma Kapo, to task the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Federal Ministry of Health with analyzing the situation and the legal framework and proposing the adoption of regulations within 90 days that will enable women to give birth painlessly.
The House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH today did not adopt the Draft Law on the Civil Initiative and the Protection of Citizens and Activists of the Federation of BiH, proposed by MP Damir Nikšić and delegate Sanela Klarić from Our Party.
The proponents state that the practice of NGOs has shown that competent authorities delay decision-making for more than a year, which makes the point of implementing a civil initiative meaningless, especially in cases where an urgent decision is necessary. According to this law, the competent authority is obliged, after processing the signatures, which can take a maximum of 15 days from the date of receipt of the civil initiative, to make a final decision on the proposed initiative at the first subsequent session.
