Through the program “Capital transfers to other levels of government and funds – Transfer for tourism development in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH)” for this year, the federal authorities will invest a total of 1.3 million BAM in projects that should strengthen the domestic tourism offer and infrastructure. Of that amount, 1.1 million BAM is intended for co-financing projects for the construction of tourist infrastructure and the improvement of the offer, while 200.000 BAM is directed towards supporting the development of sustainable tourism at destinations of special natural and cultural-historical significance. Thirty-seven applicants applied to the first program, and eleven to the second.
With these investments, the FBiH wants to encourage local communities to make better use of their own resources and create recognizable tourist destinations, with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental protection.
This year’s public call of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism was conducted digitally for the first time, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) BiH.
“We are especially pleased with the fact that there were ready projects from Tesanj to Ustikolina and Drvar, from Kljuc to Konjic, Livno, Jajce, Bihac, Neum, Grude…,” said the federal minister of environment and tourism, Nasiha Pozder, at the contract signing on Monday. Among those present were the mayor of Livno, the mayor of Jajce, and representatives of the municipalities of Kljuc, Bosanski Petrovac, Konjic, Neum, Grude, and Siroki Brijeg.
Livno will direct the funds to the arrangement of the access road to the Kruzi Plateau, known for its herd of wild horses that attracts an increasing number of tourists. “Our goal is to protect the area and create conditions for sustainable management of the herd,” said Mayor Darko Condric.
The municipality of Jajce will invest the funds in the reconstruction of the hanging pedestrian bridge over the Vrbas River, which connects the waterfall with the right bank of the river. “That way, we will further connect the path to the King’s Tomb,” said Mayor Edin Hozan.
Tourism in BiH continues to grow: 1.94 million tourists visited the country last year, achieving more than 4 million overnight stays, while in the first six months of 2025, 855.727 arrivals and 1.78 million overnight stays were recorded.
