A two-day PIC session is being held in Sarajevo today, at which Schmidt apparently consulted with members on the issue and decided to use the Bonn powers.
Addressing the media, Schmidt said that he had made the decision to transfer 12.5 million BAM to the CEC. The decision takes effect from the moment of its publication on the official OHR website.
The deadline for allocating money to finance the elections passed on May 19, and the HDZ continued with the political games that should ultimately lead to non-conduct or at least prolongation of the elections.
From the expiration of the deadline until today, the Central Election Commission has appealed to the Council of Ministers of BiH to allocate 12.5 million BAM from the accumulated funds in the budget. The Minister of Finance, Vjekoslav Bevanda, rejected that several times and thus questioned the election process.
Yesterday, the ministers finally held a session of the Council at which part of the money for the elections was secured through a loan from the Communications Regulatory Agency.
However, given that only 9.7 million has been allocated, this is not enough for the CEC to prepare and hold elections.
That is why he is the High Representative decided to intervene, Klix.ba writes.
