During the exhumation at the Grebak plateau site in the municipality of Foča, the remains of one person were found, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
Saliha Đuderija, a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IMO BiH), told us that the remains were found on the battlefront, which makes it difficult to assume the nationality of the person found.
“Two femurs of a man were found, it is assumed that this is only one person. Samples of both bones were taken, we will see if it is the same person,” Đuderija added.
The citizens of Goražde used the road via Grebak to go get food and escape from the besieged city.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina stated that the remains were sent to the Autopsy and Identification Center in Goražde, for further medical and forensic processing, and to determine the identity of the missing person through DNA analysis.
The exhumation process was carried out according to the instructions of the prosecutor from the Special Department for War Crimes, and was led by an investigator from the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH. A forensic expert, representatives of the Bosnian Interior Ministry and the International Commission for Missing Persons in BiH also participated in the process, and the site was secured by police officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton in Goražde, BIRN BiH reports.
