Gal Meir Eisenkot, son of Israeli government minister Gadi Eisenkot, was killed in northern Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Thursday.
“First Sergeant Gal Meir Eisenkot, a soldier in the 699th Battalion of the 551st Reserve Commando Brigade, was killed in action in the northern Gaza Strip,” the IDF said in a statement.
Gadi Eisenkot is a former IDF Chief of Staff, who served the army for four decades. After the October 7 attack, he joined the wartime government. He is a member of Benny Gantz’s National Unity Party, and was elected to the Knesset in 2022.
A total of 88 IDF soldiers have been killed in Gaza since October 7.
