At least six people died in last night’s earthquake that hit the southern Turkish city of Hatay.
During the night, search and rescue teams rescued one person and recovered the bodies of three more people from under the ruins of a building in Antakya.
The rescuers were working to extract four people from under the ruins of the building in Antakya, and they were workers of a company who were trying to take things out of the damaged building.
Selman Halak, one of the company’s workers, said that the victims were in the building because of the transportation of things, and that he started to drive the vehicle at the very moment of the earthquake.
“Four people were inside and one survived,” Halak said.
Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said last night that three people died in the earthquake that hit Hatay at 8:04 p.m. local time.
In the earthquake in Hatay, more than 290 people were injured, of which 18 were seriously injured, Turkish Minister of Health Fahretin Koca confirmed.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 hit the Defne district in the Turkish province of Hatay last night at 8:04 p.m. local time. Three minutes later, another 5.8-magnitude earthquake followed, whose epicenter was located in Samandag district of Hatay province.
