The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Sarajevo successfully concluded its first-ever integrated cultural promotion, “Indonesia Goes to Campus (IGTC) 2025,” held at two leading universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event took place at the International Burch University on 7 October and the School of Economic and Business of the University of Sarajevo on 8 October 2025, attracting students and academics at each venue.
The IGTC 2025 marked a significant milestone as the first time Indonesia presented a comprehensive cultural package within a university setting in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event featured interactive Angklung music performances, traditional dances, a hands-on Batik workshop led by renowned Indonesian Batik expert, Mrs. Avy Loftus, and a tasting of authentic Indonesian cuisine.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Mr. Manahan M.P. Sitompul, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasized the importance of the event. “This initiative is not only about introducing the richness of Indonesian cultural heritage but also about opening doors for collaboration in education and tourism. By directly engaging the youth, we are laying the groundwork for long-term friendship and mutual understanding between our two nations,” stated Ambassador Sitompul.
Participants showed immense enthusiasm, particularly during the Batik workshop, where many experienced the UNESCO-recognized art form for the first time. “This is my first time learning about Batik. It’s truly amazing to experience this technique firsthand from an Indonesian expert,” shared a student from International Burch University. The Angklung performance and traditional dances also left a profound impression on the attendees.
The “Indonesia Goes to Campus” program builds upon the success of previous “Indonesia Weekend” festivals, with a stronger focus on engaging the younger generation. The event also served as a platform to gather data for the 2025 Indonesia Image Survey, aligning with Indonesia’s strategic diplomatic goals.
The Embassy of Indonesia in Sarajevo is committed to continuing and expanding such cultural diplomacy initiatives to strengthen people-to-people connections as a solid foundation for sustainable bilateral relations between Indonesia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
