Federal Minister of the Internal Affairs Ramo Isak assessed that the services of the security system must work even harder to make the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) safer, although data from the cantonal ministries of the Internal Affairs and the Federal Police Administration show that the security situation in the Federation of BiH (FBiH) is at a satisfactory level.
He claims that he is not satisfied with the situation in the area of traffic safety, criminal acts in the area of domestic violence, gender-based violence, and juvenile delinquency, nor with the situation in the area of the fight against organized crime and corruption.
The Minister of Internal Affairs said this in an interview, where he talked about the areas on which the Ministry will focus in this period, the appointment of the director of the Federal Police Administration, the personnel policy, the Police Academy, the procurement of new equipment, vehicles and weapons, and about cooperation with other agencies and security institutions in BiH.
Isak emphasized that more decisive steps must be taken to show the citizens of BiH that the state has zero tolerance toward perpetrators of criminal acts.
“Of course, you have to be aware that the police administrations and police agencies are a service to the prosecutor’s offices and that the prosecutor’s offices are the ones who lead and direct the course of investigative procedures. That is why I think it is of crucial importance to strengthen the cooperation between the police administrations and judicial institutions,” he explained.
Moreover, Isak claims that he will primarily work on this in the coming years, independently and in cooperation with international partners.
The Minister said that the Federal Ministry of the Internal Affairs focused on drafting a new law on police officers of the FBiH, the law on Internal Affairs of the FBiH, amendments to the Regulation on the awarding and removal of ranks to police officers of the FBiH, and a new regulation on the internal organization of the Federal Ministry of the Internal Affairs.
“These are extremely important legal and by-law regulations that will significantly improve the situation in the field of Internal Affairs in the FBiH. After the adoption, it will be possible to advance our police officers in the departments in which they specialized in certain areas, then it will be possible to transfer and take over police officers from the cantonal ministries of Internal Affairs, the status of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs Police Academy will be regulated, and so on,” Isak added.
In particular, he pointed out that the law on the transportation of dangerous substances, the law on fire protection, the law on public gatherings, amendments to the Law on Registration Books, the law on the protection of critical infrastructure of the FBiH are also in a certain stage of adoption, and that the Government of the FBiH, on the proposal of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, has already adopted the Regulation on the uniform police uniform of the police forces in the FbiH.
“We will pay great attention to the training of students and police officers at the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs Police Academy, which is of particular importance, not only for the Federal Police Administration but also for all cantonal ministries of the internal affairs, considering that the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs Police Academy trains candidates for police service for the needs of all cantonal ministries of the internal affairs,” Minister Isak pointed out.
Speaking about the appointment of the director of the Federal Police Administration, Isak explained that, in accordance with the decision of the FBiH Government, the Federal Police Administration is managed by Acting director Vahidin Munjic.
“I responsibly claim that the Federal Police Administration efficiently and timely performs tasks and duties under its jurisdiction. I will use this opportunity to emphasize that I am extremely satisfied with the work of Vahidin Munjic, with whom, as the Federal Minister of Internal Affairs, I have extremely good cooperation,” Isak concluded.
