The administration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has proposed a 200 percent increase in defense spending in next year’s budget plan, a spokesman said.
Speaking at a conference on Tuesday, an administration spokeswoman revealed plans to bolster Iran’s defense capabilities.
Fatemeh Mohajerani said the administration has taken into account various sectors in the draft budget it submitted to parliament for Iran’s next fiscal year.
The government was considering increasing the defense budget for next year by 200 percent, she said.
On October 22nd, Pezeshkian went to parliament to present the national budget for the Iranian calendar year 1404, which begins in March 2025.
He said the basic tenet of the budget draft, which his administration produced after two months of tireless efforts, was to strengthen Iran’s defense power in light of regional circumstances and threats to the Iranian people.
According to the President, the budget bill also considered schemes to ensure economic growth, increase oil production capacity, increase medicine reserves, manage water distribution and ensure affordable housing for the lower classes.
