The Israeli military said on Friday that intelligence gathering indicated that Iran was approaching a “point of no return” in its nuclear program.
“In recent months, accumulating intelligence has provided evidence that the Iranian regime is approaching a point of no return,” the statement said.
“The Iranian regime’s efforts to produce thousands of kilograms of enriched uranium, with decentralized and established enrichment facilities in underground facilities, enable the regime to enrich uranium to military-grade levels, allowing it to obtain a nuclear weapon in the short term, the military added.
In a separate press briefing, Israeli military spokeswoman Brigadier General Effie Defrin said that Israeli aircraft had also “attacked and damaged” Iranian air defense systems.
Defrin said Israel sees a triple threat from Iran.
“First, Iran is “rushing” towards a nuclear bomb,” he said.
“Now, for the first time, we are discovering, based on intelligence, that the Iranian regime has established a secret program,” he added.
“As part of that program, senior nuclear scientists in Iran have been secretly conducting experiments to advance all the necessary components for building a nuclear weapon. This is unequivocal evidence that the Iranian regime is working to acquire nuclear weapons in the near future,” he said.
Defrin said the second part of the threat involves Iran producing thousands of ballistic missiles “with plans to double and triple them.”
“The third part: the Iranian regime continues to arm, finance and direct its allies across the Middle East against the State of Israel,” the military spokesman said, AFP reported.
