Israel Has Destroyed 88 Percent Of The Gaza Strip, Nearly 68.000 Palestinians Killed Or Missing

Since October 7th, 2023, Israel has destroyed more than 88 percent of the territory of the Gaza Strip and displaced two million people, according to a report by the Government Media Office in Gaza, published on Friday, marking the 650th day of the war.

According to data from the report, Israeli forces have used 125.000 tons of explosives, caused damage exceeding 62 billion dollars, and occupied 77 percent of Gaza’s territory. In the brutal war, a total of 67.880 Palestinians have been killed or gone missing, including more than 19.000 children and 12.500 women, among them 8.150 mothers and 953 infants. The official death toll, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, stands at 58.667, while the difference in figures arises from the number of those missing under the rubble and those who have not been identified.

The report states that around 9.500 people remain under the rubble, while 1.590 medical workers, 228 journalists, and 777 humanitarian workers have been killed. A total of 38 hospitals have been destroyed, along with 96 health centers, 156 schools completely and 382 partially, and 261 shelters have also been hit. The report also states that 2.613 families have been completely wiped from civil registries, 68 children have died of hunger, and 17 have perished from cold in displacement camps. Israeli forces have been accused of stealing 2.420 bodies from cemeteries and forming seven mass graves in hospitals. Israel has, according to the report, blocked the entry of tens of thousands of aid trucks for over 139 consecutive days and deliberately targeted food distribution points, killing 877 civilians. Gaza’s agriculture has suffered losses of 2.2 billion dollars, 92% of arable land has been destroyed, and key infrastructure – water, electricity, sewage, and historical sites – has been nearly completely devastated.

In November last year, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes in Gaza, while proceedings against Israel for genocide are ongoing before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
