United Nations humanitarian aid operations in Gaza were suspended on Monday after Israel issued a new evacuation order late Sunday for the central Gaza Strip city of Deir Al-Balah, a senior UN official said.
“We are unable to deliver aid today, given the conditions we are in,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
“We are not leaving (Gaza) because the people there need us. We are trying to meet the needs of the population, but also the need for the safety of the UN staff,” he said.
The same source said UN staff on the ground had been ordered to try to find a way to continue working.
