Israel passed a Law banning UNRWA Activities

The Israeli Parliament (Knesset) has approved a bill that foresees the termination of the activities of the United Nations (UN) Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA) in Israel.

During the Knesset vote, a total of 92 out of 120 deputies voted in favor of the bill banning UNRWA’s activities in Israel, while ten voted against it.

The Israeli army has killed 231 UNRWA staff in attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.

The Israeli government launched a campaign against UNRWA at the same time as the attack on the Gaza Strip began on October 7, 2023, claiming that the agency should be shut down on the pretext that 14 UNRWA staff, which has 12,000 employees in Gaza alone, “participated in attacks on October 7”.

Despite a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, Israel has continued its offensive on the Gaza Strip since October last year.

Since then, more than 43,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and more than 101,100 wounded, according to local health authorities, AA writes.
