Israeli Military launches ground Offensive to expand Gaza buffer Zone

The Israeli military announced on Wednesday that it had launched a “pinpoint” ground operation to expand the buffer zone between northern and southern Gaza.

“In the past 24 hours, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have launched a precise, targeted ground operation in the central and southern Gaza Strip to expand the buffer zone between the northern and southern Gaza Strip,” said a military spokespersonyesterday.

He added that “during the operation, forces expanded their renewed control over the central Netzarim axis,” which separates northern Gaza from the south.

At least 436 Palestinians have been killed and more than 670 wounded in new Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since Tuesday, violating the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in January.

Nearly 50.000 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and more than 112.000 wounded in the brutal Israeli military campaign in Gaza since October 2023.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the war in the enclave.
