Israel’s far-right ministers threatened to dissolve the government on Saturday if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to US President Joe Biden’s proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
National Security Minister Itmar Ben-Gvir threatened on Platform X “to dissolve the government if Netanyahu agrees to the cease-fire agreement announced by Biden.”
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has threatened to resign if the war ends “without eliminating Hamas,” Israel’s Channel 12 reported.
US President Joe Biden said on Friday that Israel had presented the Palestinian resistance group Hamas with a three-phase deal that would end hostilities in the besieged Gaza Strip and secure the release of prisoners held in the Palestinian enclave.
Biden appealed to Hamas to accept the deal and called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resist pressure from members of his ruling coalition who oppose the plan.
Netanyahu’s office reiterated Friday its intention to continue the country’s offensive in Gaza until all of Tel Aviv’s war goals are met.
Hamas said it would “respond positively to any proposal that includes a permanent ceasefire, a full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction efforts, the return of the displaced and the conclusion of a comprehensive hostage exchange agreement.”, Federalna writes.
