Political parties are in the final phase of selecting candidates for mayors and councilors in the local elections that will be held this year. In Srebrenica, it is still uncertain how many candidates there will be for the mayor of the municipality, but several names have stood out. On Friday, the SDP, NiP, DF and Naprijed parties sent a letter to the party headquarters in Sarajevo asking them to support Muhamed Avdić as a joint candidate.
The residents of Srebrenica do not have too many expectations from the upcoming elections.
In the previous elections, three candidates from Serbian parties were on the list, but then two of them dropped out in favor of the current mayor, Mladen Grujičić. This time, Grujičić has the support of several political parties, but not the SNSD Municipal Board, which highlighted its candidate, Miloš Vučić.
“All political parties that operate in the territory of the municipality of Srebrenica have their stamps and signatures, some presidents of the parties did not have stamps at that time, so they did not put a stamp, but they simply gave their support to me with their signature, and these are all the parties that exist in the territory of the municipality of Srebrenica , and Demos and the United Serbian and Serbian Democratic Party and four members of the SNSD,” says Grujičić.
From pro-Bosnian parties, Hamdija Fejzić, Faruk Đozić and Muhamed Avdić could run for mayor. It is not yet known whether an agreement will be reached on one candidate.
“You know that it was already in the media that the OO SDA made a decision to support me, as an independent candidate. That remained since then, and they still stand by that position. I have the support of these associations and certain circles of people who live in Srebrenica and who they know everything I’ve done so far and what my abilities are,” says Hamdija Fejzić, an independent candidate.
“I accepted to be one of the potential candidates, for the reason that, first of all, I think that things can go differently here in Srebrenica. I think that the people who are here so far are purely for their own personal interests and that a lot more could have been done there.” says Muhamed Avdić, member of the SDP, NiP and DF.
Local elections are scheduled for October 6, BHRT writes.
