Recently, more and more municipalities and cities in FBiH are requesting an exemption from the non-working Sunday, and one of them is the Municipality of Jablanica, from which they point out that such a decision was preceded by the initiative of the Association of Businessmen of that municipality, that is, the requests of small shops, which are mostly located on the main road.
Namely, on March 14, the Jablanica Municipal Council concluded that a proposal should be sent to the FBiH Government for the adoption of a decision by which the municipality of Jablanica will be exempted from the application of legal provisions prohibiting the operation of shops on Sundays.
Speaking about this initiative, the municipal mayor Emir Muratović said in an interview for Fena that the Jablanica Municipal Council already made a decision at the end of 2023 to foresee a non-working week for commercial activities in 2024.
“Then, by the decision of the Municipal Council, it was defined that during the summer season there is a possibility to request an exemption from the non-working Sunday. The request would then be submitted to the competent municipal service, which would allow commercial shops to still work on Sundays, and that in the period from June 15 to September 15,” explained the chief.
After the Law on Internal Trade was passed at the federal level, which ignores the non-working Sunday for all commercial activities, the Association of Businessmen once again requested that Jablanica be exempted from this legal provision.
The mayor of Jablanica states that this initiative is particularly important for small family shops located next to main roads, whose owners often work alone and depend on weekend traffic.
“We know that those small shops in family houses generate the most income precisely when it is a weekend or Sunday,” explained Muratović.
He says that the Municipal Council adopted the initiative and after all the necessary criteria are met, a request will be sent to the FBiH Government.
Also, shopping centers are expected to declare their work system by mid-May.
