Kenan Arnautovic Elected President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies – A First for BiH

The Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ANU BiH) announced that Prof. Dr. Kenan Arnautovic was elected president of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), whereby for the first time someone from BiH is at the head of this organization.

In the Academy, they assessed that this is a historic moment because it concerns the most significant world organization in the field of neurosurgery. The WFNS was founded in 1955 as a professional, scientific, and non-governmental organization with 130 members, five continental associations, 119 national neurosurgical societies, and six affiliated societies. It represents more than 30 thousand neurosurgeons from all over the world.

Biography of Kenan Arnautovic

Arnautovic is a professor of neurosurgery at the United States (U.S.) clinic Semmes-Murphey and at the Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Tennessee in Memphis, U.S. He has two specializations in neurosurgery – European (graduate member of the Neurosurgical Board of BiH) and U.S. (graduate member of the U.S. Board of Neurological Surgery).

18 years ago, he founded the International program of advanced training in neurosurgery at the Semmes-Murphey clinic and at the Department of Neurosurgery, which more than 40 neurosurgeons from all over the world have completed so far.

As announced by ANU BiH, he has extensively published papers in the most prestigious neurosurgical journals, and three of his papers were on the covers of the Journal of Neurosurgery. He is the author and/or editor of three books in the field of neurosurgery and an invited lecturer worldwide.

He is a co-founder and former president of the BiH U.S. Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), as well as a founding member of the Yasargil Academy of Microneurosurgery. He is an assistant editor of the journal Operative Neurosurgery (skull base field) and editor of the cranial base section in the journal World Neurosurgery, along with membership in editorial boards of five other scientific journals.

He is a member of the World Academy of Neurosurgery, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA), and the Academy of Medical Sciences of BiH. Arnautovic is also a domestic member of ANU BiH, Klix.ba writes.
