The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Zeljko Komsic, and the Member of the Presidency, Sefik Dzaferovic met yesterday with the President of the Republic of Latvia, Egils Levits.
This meeting of the presidents of the two countries is the first so far at a high level, and it was stated that the current bilateral cooperation is without open issues, but that it is desirable to intensify contacts at all levels, as announced by the Presidency of BiH.
The President of Latvia pointed out that the country supports the integration of BiH into NATO and the European Union (EU) and that they are ready to exchange experiences on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration and reforms of domestic legislation, as well as other reforms to help BiH on that path.
President Levits expressed interest in the impressions gained by members of the BiH Presidency after the EU-Western Balkans summit in Slovenia. In that context, the interlocutors exchanged views on obstacles and opportunities when it comes to BiH’s European path.
Opinions were exchanged on Russia’s aggressive political influence in the Western Balkans, and it was concluded that NATO membership is of essential political and security importance for BiH, it was mentioned in the statement.
Chairman Komsic and BiH Presidency Member Dzaferovicthanked Latvian President Egils Levits for his support and invited him to visit BiH.
Zeljko Komsic, BiH Presidency Chairman, and Sefik Dzaferovic, a Presidency member are attending the work of the International Forum on the Holocaust, which is being held in Malmö (Sweden).
