Swedish prosecutors today closed a rape investigation allegedly linked to French footballer Kylian Mbappe, citing a lack of evidence.
“During the investigation, there was a specific person who was suspected of rape and two cases of sexual assault, but my assessment is that the evidence is not sufficient to continue, and therefore the investigation has been closed. The person in question was not informed of the suspicion that she had committed a crime,” Chief Prosecutor Marina Chirakova said today.
Prosecutors have never publicly named the suspect, but many Swedish media outlets have suggested that it is Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe, who visited Stockholm in October during the Spanish league break.
Mbappe’s legal team has dismissed the allegations as false.
In a recent interview with French television channel Canal Plus, Mbappe said he was surprised by the allegations that he was suspected of rape and that he had not been contacted by Swedish authorities
