Latal: Visit of Mogherini and Hahn on the eve of the debate about the British-German initiative

hahnPolitical analyst Srećko Latal told the FENA that the unannounced visit of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini and European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn comes at a very important moment.

Latal thinks that the formation of new government in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the October general elections is “again in deadlock” adding that most political parties play “their game” focusing more on personal or party interests rather than the needs of citizens who they represent.

“It remains to be seen what will be the result of this visit as a new European initiative to BiH gives an opportunity for more concrete and better engagement of the EU in BiH, but on the other hand, the initiative is still in its infancy and lacks concrete details and measures,” Latal said.

He expressed hope that this visit will lead to further development and European initiatives and help speed up the process of forming new government in BiH.

The visit of Mogherini and Hahn comes on the eve of the debate about the British-German initiative of BiH before the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) of the European Union on December 12, and the foreign ministers of the EU Member States gathered in FAC last month and discussed this proposal.
