The Let’s Do It team in Bosnia and Herzegovina yesterday launched the World Cleaning Day campaign, which this year is being implemented in 40 locations throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an appropriate ceremony.
In Sarajevo, the teams started from the railway station and cleaned in four different locations, and in addition to Sarajevo, some of the cities where they cleaned were: Bosanska Krupa, Bijeljina, Mostar, Prijedor, Brčko. The rain in some cities hindered the action a little, but the volunteers did not give up, and despite the bad weather, they fulfilled their goal, the Let’s Do It team announced.
More than 15,000 volunteers, of all age groups – from 7 to 77 years of age, from various spheres, throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina joined the cleaning actions – membership of non-governmental organizations of various interest groups, informal groups, business entities, up to families and individuals. A significant part of the celebration of World Cleaning Day is the participation of 130 primary and secondary schools throughout BiH, which cleaned their yards and school environments. All of them participated with one goal, to help make our country and planet Earth a nicer and cleaner place to live.
“The interest of a large number of volunteers in participating in cleaning actions is an exceptional motivation for our work. This shows us that we have citizens who have recognized the problem and are ready to work on it through selective disposal of waste if the system offers it to them,” they say from Let’s Do Team.
They add that through their past experience they have significant results behind them, and their long-term goal is to influence the change in awareness of environmental problems in the world and their impact on people.
The Let’s Do It team in BiH has been conducting clean-up actions since 2012, and the World Clean-up Day has been organized together with the World Let’s Do It team since 2018. At the global level, several million volunteers are involved, from 191 countries of the world, who work together on environmental problems.
During September, the World Cleanup Day was announced through the campaign “Where is the trash?”, with the aim of raising awareness about the amount of waste we produce, and about the need for responsible disposal of recyclable waste. This campaign and cleaning actions are trying to draw attention to the importance of proper waste management in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
