Aljosa Campara, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), also laid the flowers, and said it was important to remember this date in order to prevent some things of happening again.
“Mostar had many victims in the period between 1941 and 1945, many of them did not get the freedom. Today, we pay tribute to all the victims of the fascist terror of that period. This is one monument that must constantly warn us, for our children and for the future. The Federal Government is in charge of keeping this complex, but still today we have received the horrific images of an anti-civilization act, a crime against the victims, “ Minister Campara said.
He said that the actions of the restoration of the Partisan cemetery will be continued, as well as the renewal of the coexistence in Mostar.
“Mostar has to be a unique city, a city of all the Mostar citizens who love it and consider it as their city,” Aljosa Campara concluded.
The President of Assembly of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC), Serif Spago, said that we are striving towards Europe, and everyone knows that Europe is built on anti-fascism.
“We must get used to the fact that the fight against fascism is a priority for all of us, i.e. that the tendance of anti-fascism tradition is something we should consider more significant. In schools and at faculties, we have to underline the importance of fighting for a unique and antifascist BiH,“ said Spago, emphasizing that the priority of all should be the restoration of the Partisan monument.
The President of the Support Committee for reconstruction of the Partisan memorial cemetary in Mostar, Sergio Sotric said yesterday that vandalism at the cemetery was done in the last 24 hours.
“I would not speak at all about the people who destroy the tombstones during the night, but I will only say that this vandalism will not stop us on the path to European integrations. Today, numerous delegations pay tribute to our daughters and sons who defended freedom in the darkest period of the European history. The institutions are obliged to do their job, so the job of the police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to find the perpetrators, “ said Sergio Sotric.
He also reminded of the efforts of the Committee that he leads, and the promise of state and federal institutions about its renovation.
