Since the early morning hours, police officers from the Special Support Unit of the Ministry of Interior of the Tuzla Canton, together with members of the GSS Lukavac, continued searching the Spreča Riverbed. At around 9:30 a.m., a lifeless male body was found, most likely that of police officer Samir Mustafić, who had been searched for months.
The Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of Tuzla Canton was notified of the discovery of the body, and an investigation team from the Criminal Police Sector was sent to the field, which, together with the prosecutor on duty, will conduct an investigation and confirm the identity of the victim.
Samir Mustafić disappeared four months ago during a chase for a fugitive when he entered the swollen Jala River trying to save another person. A strong current swept them downstream, and the body of E.G. (27) was found on April 16.
During the months-long search, the police, the State Security Service, Civil Protection, firefighters, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and citizens were engaged, and diving units, mountaineers and heavy machinery were also used.
Police officer Samir Mustafić was posthumously awarded the Medal for Courage on May 22, on the Day of the Police of the Canton of Tuzla, by the Director of the Police Directorate of the Canton of Tuzla, Dževad Korman, in recognition of his dedication in the performance of his duties.
