Parents’ house was officially opened by two girls who are currently receiving medical treatment for cancer. Opening ceremony was attended by numerous officials, prime ministers, mayors, representatives of Vakuf Directorate, the Islamic community, donors from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and children with parents who were the most happy about this event. The goal of the house is that children who are being treated for cancer, have opportunity to be with their families when they are not receiving treatment and to have all the conditions as they were at home. This, according to doctors, significantly improves the treatment.
Every year around 50 children are diagnosed with cancer, but not all of them are coming out of CS so they will not need this house. But for all those who are coming out of CS, there is 10 apartments where the whole family can stay. The project manager of the Parents’ house was Fikret Kubat who dreamed, lived and realized this project.
Emir Salkic who designed the house, said that the house received an energy certificate of A category, and that the consumption of energy is three times less than in the usual house. About 40 engineers worked on the house.
“We did what any parent would do for their child. This is a result of all of us. But now we need a systemic solution on how to fund it for the little children. It can be done very easily from grants from the Canton and the FBiH,” said Kubat.
“This means a lot to children and parents because it is an essential support for the child while going through the treatment process. I’m happy for all the mothers who could not be with their children before,” said Muvedeta Nizic from Hadzici, one of the parents.
