London Mayor Sadiq Khan Arrives in Sarajevo, Meets BiH Presidency Chairman

London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Thursday held a meeting with the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović.

Information about Khan’s visit to BiH was shared by Bećirović.

“It was my pleasure to host the Mayor of London and a great friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sadiq Khan, in the BiH Presidency building tonight. During the meaningful and friendly conversation, I expressed my gratitude to the Mayor of London for his long-term support for multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina and his strong commitment to preserving the culture of remembrance of the genocide in Srebrenica,” he said.

Bećirović said that it is very important for BiH that the truth about our country is kept in London and the values of peace, tolerance and common life are promoted.

Sadiq Khan is a British politician from the Labor Party and the Mayor of London since 2016. He was born on October 8, 1970 in London as the son of Pakistani immigrants. Before entering politics, he worked as a lawyer specializing in human rights, representing cases related to civil liberties and the prohibition of discrimination.

His election as mayor of London was historic because he became the first Muslim to head a major Western European capital.
Before taking up the post of mayor, Khan was a member of the British Parliament from 2005 to 2016, representing the constituency of Tuting in south-west London.

During the mandate of the Labor governments, he held several ministerial posts, including the functions of Minister of Transport and Minister of Justice. As mayor, he focused on improving public transportation, increasing housing availability, improving air quality, and fighting climate change.
