Luka Modric Announces Departure from Real Madrid After Legendary Spell

Captain of the Croatian national football team Luka Modric announced on social media that at the end of this season he is indeed leaving the ranks of Real Madrid.

“The time has come. A moment I never wanted to come, but that’s football, and in life, everything has a beginning and an end… On Saturday I will play my last match at the Santiago Bernabeu,” wrote Modric.

“I arrived in 2012 with the hope of wearing the jersey of the best team in the world and the ambition to achieve great things, but I couldn’t even imagine what would happen. Playing for Real Madrid changed my life as a footballer and as a person. I am proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history,” he added.

Modric came to Real in 2012 from Tottenham. In the jersey of the “Royal Club,” he recorded 590 appearances, making him ninth in Real’s history, with 43 goals, 95 assists, and even 28 trophies, becoming the most successful player in the history of the “Royal Club.”

“I want to sincerely thank the club, especially President Florentino Perez, my teammates, coaches, and everyone who helped me throughout all this time. Over the years I experienced incredible moments, seemingly impossible comebacks, finals, celebrations, and magical nights at the Bernabeu… We won everything and I was very happy. Very, very happy. But beyond the titles and victories, I carry in my heart the affection of all Real Madrid fans. I truly don’t know how to explain the special connection I have with all of you and how respected and loved I felt and still feel. I will never forget every cheer and all the kind gestures.

I leave with a full heart. Full of pride, gratitude, and unforgettable memories. And even though after the Club World Cup I will no longer wear this jersey on the pitch, I will always be a Real Madrid fan. We will see each other again. Real Madrid will always be my home. For life. Hala Madrid and nothing else,” wrote Modric.
